Christmas Turtles

Today is Christmas! At 5:00 am, I went to see my presents from Santa. I got a 50 gallon tank but no turtles. Daddy said that I could maybe order some turtles from the internet and that he had a book in his bathroom about different kinds of turtles. When I went to get the book, I screamed because in the bathtub I saw one baby turtle. Daddy came and said, "Look again." I looked and saw another turtle. My Dad said that they are Southern Painted Turtles. We took most of the day setting up the aquarium in my room. Almost every minute, I asked if we could move them from the little tank in the bathtub to the 50 Gallon tank in my room. Finally, my dad said, YES!!" I think they love it because they are so tiny and the tank is huge.

I named the shy turtle Webster because I first noticed his webbed feet. I named the active turtle Skippy because he is so fast. The top picture is Webster and the bottom picture is Skippy.

A Sad Message from Brett's Mom

Today, July 15, 2009, Brett found Dribble but he was not alive. He was in our backyard and he looked just like our sweet Dribble. Ants had found him. It was very sad. We buried him, put rocks on his grave and prayed.

Brett didn't want to write this because it is still a little too hard so he asked me to put it on his blog. I'm sure that Brett will continue to find turtles and write about them. He will also let everyone know about the three eggs that are in the turtle pen. We hope that they will hatch and be healthy turtles.

Terrible news

Dribble is gone!

The other day, a little boy from down the street brought a turtle to live with Dribble. It was a girl turtle probably around 4 years old (She was a little bigger than Dribble). He had named her Woody because he found her in the woods.

Ok, this morning I went to fee them as usual but they were missing. My mom and I dugged and dugged and found nothing. We thought that maybe they had dug a hole. There is no way that they could have gotten out by themselves so we are wondering if someone stole them. But who would do that????

Mikey and I have been searching all day for them. I am not losing hope. Maybe they are not far away. Jacob is going to help me make posters.

If anyone reads this and knows what could have happened to them, please let me know or leave a comment.

Lilly's Egg

You are not going to believe this!!!! On Friday, June 12th, Lilly laid an egg in the outdoor turtle pen. I hope this turtle will live. My only worry is that the dirt is too moist. But I do not feel like I should move the egg. I can't wait until the egg hatches. I have named the turtle Myrtle. I will keep you informed on the progess of the egg.

Lilly, the Eastern Box Turtle

One of my three turtles that I caught and then released into the wild came back last Wednesday evening. I had a feeling that it was pregnant because her tail was swollen where the eggs come out. She was also acting different. I put her in the outdoor turtle pen for a couple of days. I do not keep big turtles for very long.

UpDated information on Emerald

Since I have posted last, there have been so many changes. Emerald died four days after I got him. I told Mikey and Lacey. We were all very sad. I wonder if he was sick when Lacey caught him and that is why it was easy to get him. I hope that his last days were good at my home.
